Rumpke Waste and Recycling Co., headquartered in Cincinnati, has purchased certain hauling assets from Milliron Industries in Mansfield, Ohio. The assets include trucks and other capital equipment previously owned by Milliron. The sale, finalized Jan. 9, 2015, did not include buildings.
Grant Milliron, president of Milliron Industries, says his company had decided to sell off its waste and recycling assets, using the proceeds to invest in its metals recycling operations.
Milliron adds that while the company felt that the collection of recyclables, especially old corrugated containers (OCC), contributed to company’s growth, it has decided to shift its recycling efforts toward its auto shredding business.
In addition to strengthening its scrap metals business, Milliron says it also has targeted the scrap plastics market for future growth.
Rumpke has been steadily growing its assets in the central and Northeastern part of Ohio since it made its first acquisition in the Mansfield area in 2009. Presently, Rumpke has three facilities in the Mansfield area: a building dedicated to hauling, a transfer station/recycling center and a landfill. The newly acquired assets will be folded into Rumpke Waste & Recycling, Mansfield division.
Rumpke has roughly 120 employees at its three locations in the Mansfield area. Rumpke will retain employees who previously worked for Milliron.
Milliron, which is well-known for its metals recycling business, started its waste management business in 1988, sold it in 1997 and started the business back up in 2004.
