Chairman of Resource Association resigns

The Resource Association, a U.K.-based trade association for the reprocessing and recycling industries and their supply chain, has announced that Jonathan Short has resigned as its chairman and board member.

In choosing to resign, Short says, “As the UK’s reprocessing sector goes from strength to strength, it is important that it has an effective, focused and proactive voice to provide the leadership it needs. In the short time since it was founded, the Resource Association has proven its ability to do just that. It is in the best interests of the association and its members that it has at its helm a chairman who can make the necessary commitment to this influential organization.”

Short, the founder and deputy chairman of ECO Plastics, has had to contend with financial difficulties for the plastics recycling company over the past several months.

He was named the Resource Association’s chairman at the group’s meeting in April 2014.

Ray Georgeson, Resource Association’s chief executive, says, “In his time as chairman, Jonathan has helped build the Resource Association into a strong and credible voice for the reprocessing and recycling industry. On behalf of the board and the members, I would like to thank Jonathan for the time, hard-work and support he has given to the association since it was founded over three years ago. We are naturally disappointed to see him go, but are in no doubt that he will play an important role in the Association’s future as it goes from strength-to-strength.”

Peter Clayson, business development manager for DS Smith, will serve as acting chairman until the association’s next annual general meeting in May.

In accepting to temporary position, Clayson says, “I wish to thank Jonathan for his service as chairman and board member for the association and wish him well in his future endeavors.

“I am grateful for the support of colleagues as I take up the role of acting chairman and look forward to supporting Ray Georgeson and the team during this important period for UK and EU recycling policy developments.”
