Massachusetts City Adopts RecycleBank Program

3/1/2010

City switches to single-stream recycling with rewards program.

The city of Revere, Mass., a suburb of Boston, has adopted single-stream recycling citywide that will incorporate the rewards program developed and promoted by RecycleBank. The program already is being used in Everett, Mass., a neighbor to Revere.

“The city is proud to announce that it is expanding single-stream recycling and the RecycleBank program to more Revere households,” says Revere’s Mayor Thomas Ambrosino. Last month, the city and RecycleBank began delivering new 64-gallon recycling carts to single-family households and multi-family buildings with up to eight units.

The decision to expand the program is partly based on the success of the first phase. Last year, 3,100 participating households increased the amount they recycle by 167 percent and diverted more than 390 tons from the landfill.
