Polyflow, County Collaborate on Plastics Recycling Project

Company's innovative system will take in plastics from #3-#7.


Polyflow LLC, an Akron, Ohio-based early stage advanced energy producer, and the Portage, Ohio, County Solid Waste Management District are collaborating on a project that will significant increase the plastic recycling rates within the county.

Polyflow recently held a demonstration of its plastics recycling process.

The agency intends on using Polyflow’s polymer recycling process to divert plastic types #3 through #7 from the waste stream and avoid the need to landfill or incinerate them. The collaboration will also identify and divert from landfills other hard to recycle post-consumer products such as automotive tires, carpet, and polystyrene.

Bill Steiner, director of the PCSWMD, expects to see both environmental and financial benefits for Portage County by virtue of working with the company. “Polyflow offers the Portage County Solid Waste Management District a consistent outlet for the recycling of 3-7 plastics. Thus diverting literally tons of materials from landfills and providing green energy for the nation. We are excited to be a part of this technology”.

“Through this partnership we will be in a position to help redesign the collection methods and sorting techniques for polymer waste in Portage County, which will improve the District’s ability to capture and responsibly dispose of complex polymer and rubber products”, said Jay Schabel, Polyflow’s CEO.
