MSS Releases New Optical Sorting Technology

New sorting system provides high-resolution color camera sorting for shredded and granulated materials.

The optical sorting equipment manufacturer MSS Inc., based in Nashville, Tenn., has introduced the L-VIS high-resolution color camera sorting system for small particle applications, such as shredded and granulated materials.

The L-VIS is designed for color-sorting applications such as shredded electronic scrap, extracting high-value commodities (printed circuit boards, copper, etc). The company notes that the sort system also provides separation accuracy of up to 98 percent and is available with a shape identification software algorithm designed for sorting wires. The L-VIS also can automatically sort plastic granulates, pellets and flakes by color.

“We developed the L-VIS from the ground up, and we are very excited to demonstrating its capabilities to our customers,” says Greg Thibado, MMS general manager.

According to MSS, the L-VIS’ corresponding high-resolution air jet array provides fast, accurate ejection. An all-metal detector for ferrous, nonferrous and stainless steel can be added for further sorting applications. The L-VIS can be configured by the operator via a touch-screen interface and is offered in three sizes: 800 millimeter (32 inches), 1,200 millimeter (48 inches) and 1,600 millimeter (64 inches).

Felix Hotenstein, MSS sales director, says, “The L-VIS allows us to sort smaller and smaller particles, and we are just starting to scratch the surface in regard to all the different applications. We believe the L-VIS will provide a superb performance.”

MSS is a division of the CP Group. The CP Group designs and manufactures material recovery facilities and recycling equipment for single stream recycling, construction and demolition waste, commercial and industrial waste, waste to energy, municipal solid waste, electronic scrap and other material.
