Metso Laying Off Staff in Germany

3/9/2010

Company cites decrease in steel production in Europe and North America as reasons for layoffs.

The Germany-based equipment company Metso has announced plans to lay off more than 100 employees at its Dusseldorf, Germany location. The employees are part of Metso’s metal recycling business.

The company cited weakening demand for metal recycling equipments due to the low scrap metal prices, as well as a decrease in steel production in Europe and North America. The reductions are part of the process to streamline both the company’s metal recycling business operations and its structure.
Currently, the company employs about 500 persons in its metal recycling business in Düsseldorf. Worldwide, Metso’s recycling business employs about 800 people.
