Appliance Recycling Facility Opens in Pennsylvania

3/10/2010

Jaco Environmental will operate the facility.

The first appliance recycling center in eastern Pennsylvania has officially opened. The facility, located in Hatfield, Pa., is expected to serve around 80 percent of the state’s electric utility customers.

The appliance recycling facility will be operated by JACO Environmental Inc. It is slated to handle the appliances collected by three utility firms in the state – PECO, FirstEnergy Corp., and PPL Electric Utilities.

The facility officially opened on March 10.

One of the utility firms that is slated to provide the recycling center with appliances, PECO, is operating a program called Smart Appliance Recycling. Through this program the utility company will pick up refrigerators or freezers from its customers and ship them to the Hatfield facility where they will be recycled.
