German company is singled out for its plastics "upcycling" process.
A plastics recycling process developed by the German company Interseroh has been nominated for the German Innovation Award for Climate and the Environment for 2013. Interseroh, a subsidiary of the ALBA Group, was nominated in the category of "Environment-Friendly Products and Services" for its sorting and processing techniques.
Through its recycling process Interseroh is able to manufacture plastic granulates completely from post-consumer material that the company says is comparable to virgin material.
"Recycled-resource opens up a completely new perspectives for sustainable enterprises and contributes to easing the strain on commodity markets," says Kai Bastuck, head of Interseroh’s responsible business unit. "The advantages of recycled-resource over other processes are clear: Since 100 percent post-consumer material is used, manufacturers may apply for the eco-label ‘Blue Angel’ for their end product. In addition to this, the waste plastic is sorted and processed by Interseroh only, which means we are able to supply new regranulates in previously unattainable quality specifically to customer requirements, for example, in a certain color or meeting certain technical demands."
Interseroh previously won the Industry Award in 2013 in the category "Support and Services" for its development of the recycled plastic Procyclen.
