Slaughter, La.-based Anvil Attachments, a manufacturer of buckets and grapples, has been recognized by International Bulk Journal (IBJ), winning the “Best Grab” category in the publication’s 2012 awards.

The company was among five finalists in the “Best Grab” category, which included Credeblug of Spain, Guven Machine and Grab of Turkey, SMAG (Peiner) of Germany and Verstegen of the Netherlands.

IBJ judges rated the manufacturers based on their consistency in meeting customer demand for efficient, cost-effective grabs. “Aware that grabs should ideally be adapted to each bulk commodity, judges will look for the use of the quality material in manufacture and innovative design in minimizing environmental damage,” IBJ says.

Jon Craft, Anvil president, says, “Over the last few years, we have implemented new processes in our manufacturing to reduce cost and improve quality. Lean manufacturing is now standard in our manufacturing process, which has allowed us to drastically reduce cost.”

Anvil’s engineering department also has installed finite element analysis software, which allows the company to reduce a grab’s weight while revealing weak areas in the design, Craft says. This allows the company to perfect its design before fabrication begins, he adds.
