The battery stewardship organization Call2Recycle Inc., Atlanta, has named Leo Raudys vice president of program development. In this newly created position, he will explore and develop new growth areas outside of Call2Recycle's traditional consumer battery collection program.
Raudys previously directed the environmental sustainability portfolio for Best Buy Inc. from 2009 through 2013. Prior to that, he worked at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), including nearly three years as deputy commissioner, where he was responsible for many of the state’s environmental policies and programs.
"Leo's experience in building and directing sustainability programs in the public and private sector adds a rich perspective and valuable insight into how we can expand our service to other important environmental challenges," says Carl Smith, CEO and president of Call2Recycle.
“As Call2Recycle looks to expand its current program reach, Leo's established credentials and thought leadership in sustainability will help guide us into new frontiers," Smith adds. “We believe the model we have created for consumer battery retailers over the past 20 years could be replicated to serve other industries in need of better and more comprehensive recycling programs.”
Raudys says, “This is an exciting time for product stewardship, and Call2Recycle will play an important role as the conduit for government regulators, consumers and retailers to develop robust take-back programs. The public is more concerned than ever before about our environmental future.”
He adds, “I look forward to applying my product stewardship background to furthering Call2Recycle's mission.”
