Rumpke Consolidated Companies Inc., Colerain Township, Ohio, has announced that its chief operating officer, Bill Rumpke Jr. (right), has been named the Entrepreneur of the Year for South Central Ohio and Kentucky.
The Ernst & Young award recognizes leaders who demonstrate innovation, financial success and personal commitment to their businesses, according to program organizers.
Rumpke was presented the award on June 27 at a reception in Cincinnati. He will now compete with 23 other entrepreneurs nationwide for a National Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Winners in several national categories will be announced at an annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., on Nov. 16.
Bill Rumpke Jr. joined the company in 1978 as a driver and a general laborer before starting up Rumpke’s Central Ohio hauling division in 1988. He was promoted to COO in 2002.
Rumpke Consolidated Companies, formed in 1932, is one of the nation’s largest privately-owned residential and commercial waste and recycling firms, providing service to parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.
