Waste Industries Unveils CNG Station and Refuse Fleet

The solid waste management firm Waste Industries USA Inc. (WI), headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., has launched the first compressed natural gas (CNG) station and fleet in the Cape Fear region of North Carolina. The company had launched a CNG station and fleet in Durham, N.C., in May of 2012.

The launch of WI’s newest CNG station and fleet was held at the company’s Bolivia Branch in Brunswick County, N.C., which is the home to 46 CNG filling points. The company says that 32 trucks and one service vehicle will operate using CNG and will service about 80,500 homes and businesses throughout the region. The station is not open to the public at this time.

The WI project is the result of a partnership of services provided by Mansfield Energy Corp. (MEC), Gainesville, Ga.; and Piedmont Natural Gas (PNG), Dallas. Mansfield provided the construction design, engineering and project management services for installing the fueling station. PNG will provide WI with natural gas service as well as the related infrastructure necessary to operate the CNG fleet.
