Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman Hires COO

Jay Simonis will serve as chief operations officer for all company facilities.

Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, Owego, N.Y., has hired Jay Simonis as chief operations officer for all its company facilities.

“Jay brings more than 20 years of experience in management and facilities oversight to our company,” says Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman. “His background in facility and environmental health and safety management will be invaluable as we continue to grow.”

The position of COO is a new addition to the company’s management structure. Simonis, who will be based in Owego, will be responsible for all nine Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman facilities. As COO, he will coordinate and oversee operations at all of the company’s facilities. He also will develop and enforce the company’s procedures and policies throughout the entire organization.

Simonis brings more than 30 years of experience to the company.

Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman estimates it will process more than 800,000 tons of ferrous and 150 million pounds of nonferrous scrap in 2011. Upstate's metal shredding and separation operation handles all types of ferrous and nonferrous scrap metals. The company has facilities in Binghamton, Ithaca, Jamestown, Liberty, Rochester and Syracuse, N.Y., and two locations in Owego.
