Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, headquartered in Owego, N.Y., has added four industry veterans to its staff, says Adam Weitsman, company owner.

“We continue to search for the best people in the scrap industry,” Weitsman says in a news release.

Joining the company are Brian Henderson, who has been named assistant port manager of Ben Weitsman of Albany, N.Y.; Kevin Freehill, the new general manager of Ben Weitsman of Liberty, N.Y.; Sergio Amorim, hired as the new logistics manager for Ben Weitsman of Albany, N.Y.; and Luis Ruiz, who has been named nonferrous production manager of Upstate Shredding and all 10 Ben Weitsman locations in New York and Pennsylvania.

Ruiz has worked in the scrap industry since 1985. He most recently worked for Sims Metal Management (SMM) in Newark, N.J., where he spent 11 years in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating as the foreman/supervisor of nonferrous metals, a post he held for seven years.

Since 2009 Henderson worked for SMM locations in Newark and Jersey City, N.J. Most recently he was quality superintendent for SMM’s Claremont Terminal in Jersey City, overseeing inbound scrap quality. He also held the position of plant supervisor of Sims’ Hawkins Street facility in Newark, N.J., and as a dispatcher in the company’s logistics division.

Freehill will leave his position of yard manager for SMM’s Liberty facility.

Amorim also is leaving SMM’s Newark operation.
