Tom Buechel, owner of Rockaway Recycling and the iScrap App, both based in Rockaway, N.J., has been selected for Waste and Recycling News (WRN) Rising Star Award for 2012. He was among 12 winners that were chosen from nearly 100 nominees, according to a news release issued by Rockaway.
Rising Stars recipients serve the waste and recycling industries in a variety of ways, including engineering, landfill management, entrepreneurship, communications and public service, according to WRN.
The iScrap App is a mobile app and online service that provides scrap metal recyclers access scrap yards near their location or search via city and state, zip code, or scrap yard name from any mobile or Internet connected device. Buechel, who created the app, is also the second generation operator of Rockaway Recycling.
“The talent level of these 100-or-so nominees was extraordinary,” WRN Editor John Campanelli says. “Cutting the ranks to only 12 honorees was difficult, but it proves just how many gifted young people are in our industry.”
Rockaway Recycling was profiled in the December 2011 issue of Recycling Today. Click here to read the article.
