Recall, a records storage and information management firm headquartered in Norcross, Ga., has announced that it has been granted a patent for its data protection services (DPS) asset management process that is powered by radio frequency identification (RFID). According to Recall, the DPS solution leverages its experience and expertise in RFID technology to deliver added security to a business’s information assets.
Recall’s print-on-demand technology enables companies to seamlessly transition their data storage from traditional barcodes to RFID tags. Each asset tag is printed, labeled and uniquely encoded in a single step, eliminating the chance of mislabeling media, according to the company.
Recall adds that the RFID delivers information audit reports with 99.999 percent accuracy, and, unlike barcodes, RFID signals do not require line-of-sight to locate information assets. The signals can pass through nonmetallic barriers for verification of media within closed cases or cabinets. Additionally, Recall’s patented print-on-demand process can preserve media identification numbers and colors, which eliminates the need to change internal coding within existing systems.
Recall notes the other benefits to its RFID system are the following:
- Accuracy. RFID readers do not require line-of-sight scanning and signals can pass right through nonmetallic solid barriers.
- Speed. RFID broadcasts can accurately capture multiple tags simultaneously at a rate 10 times faster than previous manual methods, which eliminates the need for human-driven data collection and lowers costs.
- Simplification. Large volumes of media can be quickly and accurately tagged, simplifying the overwhelming task of regulatory compliance.
- Unique ID. Every Recall RFID-enabled media asset has a globally unique Recall ID, meaning there is no other like it in the world.
“We are very excited to roll out our patented RFID offering to businesses around the globe,” says Heather Generes, Recall’s global vice president of marketing. “Recall’s innovative culture helps customers better manage the increasing challenges of information overload by delivering solutions to enhance existing and new information management programs. We look forward to helping companies around the globe perform more rapid, accurate information audits and remain fully compliant.”
