Responsible Recycling Practices (R2) Standard coordinator R2 Solutions, based in Boulder, Colo., says Venkatesha (Venky) Murthy has been added to its board of directors. R2 Solutions says Murthy was the chief architect for the first integrated electronics recycling firm in Singapore and the designer of some of the most technologically advanced recycling systems in Asia.
Murthy has made his experience available to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), conducted e-scrap workshops for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and served on multiple international committees, including the International Electronics Recycling Congress (IERC) /ICM Switzerland steering committee, the World Recycling Forum (WRF) steering committee and the Technology & Innovation and Policy Framework committees for the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Center.
“With the global demand for electronics devices rapidly increasing, particularly in Asia and Africa, the need is greater than ever to bring safe and responsible electronics recycling technologies to the regions where they are most needed,” says Murthy. “I am excited to join forces with R2 Solutions because of the strength of the R2:2013 Standard and because of the emphasis R2 Solutions places on inclusion and partnership with all countries.”
“We are extremely pleased that Venky has joined the board,” says John Lingelbach, executive director of R2 Solutions. “His technical expertise and insight regarding the unique challenges that many countries face as they seek to adopt more environmentally sound practices will help us better understand how we can assist those countries to achieve our common goal of safe, sensible and sustainable electronics recycling.”
Prior to his current position as managing director of VANS Chemistry, Murthy was one of the founders and managing partner of WEEE Management, an environmental technology consulting company, and also a managing partner of Cimelia Resource Recovery.
