Attendees of the 2012 Paper Recycling Conference & Trade Show may end up in the gutter, but they’ll have fun and raise money for the Paper Stock Industries (PSI) Scholarship Fund during the PSI’s inaugural bowling tournament. The fund-raising event takes place Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, from 9 to 11 p.m. at Lucky Strike Chicago

The tournament is being held in conjunction with the Paper Recycling Conference & Trade Show, Oct. 14-16, in downtown Chicago at the Marriott Magnificent Mile. The conference is hosted by the Recycling Today Media Group and the PSI chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI).

Conference attendees interested in participating in the bowling tournament must register before Oct. 3. The registration fee includes all-you-can-drink beer, wine and cocktails; appetizers; shoe rental; and bowling. Teams may register for the event at a cost of $300 for PSI-members (at least one PSI member must be on the team) or $500 for non-members. Each team is responsible for filling its five-player roster, naming the team and coming up with a team bowling shirt. Those who do not wish to bowl can attend the event for a $25 donation to the PSI Scholarship Fund.

In addition to networking events like the bowling tournament, the Paper Recycling Conference & Trade Show features a comprehensive program that includes sessions organized by the PSI chapter of ISRI. The PSI-sponsored sessions at this year’s conference are:

  • Monday, Oct. 15, 10:30 a.m. to noon – The Economy in the Forest Products Industry. This session features economists from RISI and Standard & Poor’s who specialize in the forest products industry. The speakers, including Tobias Crabtree of Standard & Poor’s, provide a deep-dive look into the industry and factors that will affect it in the future.
  • Monday, Oct. 15, 3 to 4 p.m. – The Changing Face of Industry Pricing Indexes. The past 12 months have seen new indexes introduced to the market as well as changes to established indexes. This session welcomes Todd Petracek from RISI (Official Board Markets) and Susan Heam from Forest2Market to discuss the methodology behind their indexes and how they serve the industry.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 16, 10:30 a.m. to noon – PSI Chapter Meeting.

The Paper Recycling Conference includes an exhibit hall featuring more than 60 suppliers to the paper and plastics recycling industries. In addition to the opening reception, the exhibit hall also hosts numerous refreshment breaks and lunches Monday and Tuesday, providing attendees with ample opportunity for networking with other industry professionals, as well as with suppliers.
