E-Stewards certification was created by the nonprofit group Basel Action Network (BAN), Seattle. E-Stewards recyclers go through third-party audits to demonstrate they adhere to the environmental responsibility and worker protection standards.
“We welcome SMS Systems Maintenance Services into the growing ranks of truly responsible e-cyclers,” says Jim Puckett, BAN executive director. “Only certified e-Stewards recyclers ensure clients that their hazardous electronic waste is not exported to developing countries and will be recycled in accordance with the most secure practices in the world.”
The SMS service portfolio includes a wide range of offerings, such as hardware maintenance, IT asset management, managed network and VoIP services, product deployment, relocation, data erasure, media destruction and IT asset recycling. These services are provided worldwide via a network of SMS and affiliate-owned service centers located near most major cities in North America, Asia and Europe.
“Systems Maintenance Services’ core business is rooted in independent hardware maintenance, EOL (end-of-life) services and IT asset disposition,” says Chad Mitchell, manager of SMS Electronics Recycling Services. “All core business processes are designed to efficiently and effectively meet client expectations in a manner protecting the environment, worker health and safety, our clients and our community. At SMS, dedication and commitment to exceeding all standards is our primary goal.”
