The Recycling Today Media Group, Valley View, Ohio, has introduced the MRF & Recycling Plant Operations Forum, which is scheduled for Oct. 17-18, 2016. The inaugural event adds to the group’s successful conferences serving the business interests of the waste and recycling industry in the U.S. and internationally.

The MRF & Recycling Plant Operations Forum will be at the Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile Hotel. The event is planned to take place immediately preceding the 17th annual Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference at the same venue Oct. 19-21.

The forum, designed and produced in cooperation with RRT Design & Construction, Melville, New York, is tailored to operators of packing plants and of dual-stream, single-stream, municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition (C&D) and plastics recovery facility (PRF) recycling plants. The program has been expressly designed to provide critical insights on plant operations—from equipment operations and maintenance to workforce optimization, according to the event organizers.

“Plant operations is a huge cost center,” says James R. Keefe, group publisher of the Recycling Today Media Group. “It’s estimated that the industry in the U.S. alone incurs some $2 billion in annual operating and maintenance costs! In today’s environment understanding how to manage these expenses while optimizing operations for quality and throughput is essential.”

Keefe continues, “This forum is designed specifically to do that. There is nothing like it in the industry. As the machinery and technology in recycling plants become more complex and integrated, as well as more capital intensive, it’s essential that operators optimize these investments.”

The event is designed for plant managers, regional managers, owners, consultants, engineers, maintenance managers, government officials, equipment suppliers and any professionals interested in better understanding plant operations and technology.

“We’re excited to be cooperating on this event,” says Nat Egosi, president of RRT Design & Construction. “The need for a forum for those operating and maintaining recycling plants to learn best practices from one another is long overdue. Running these facilities is not easy, and the changing technology and material flows today is adding to that complexity.”

The MRF & Recycling Plant Operations Forum website, available through, will be updated continuously with speaker and sponsor information. The website also will act as a hub for registration and sponsorship details as well as hotel for information.
