U.K. Groups Merging Recycling Conferences

Emap and CIWM will form a joint form a joint exhibition for the sustainable waste, resource and environment sector.

Two U.K. groups, Emap and the Chartered Institution of Waste Management (CIWM), which have been hosting competing recycling and waste management conferences in the United Kingdom, have announced that they have merged their two conferences to form a joint exhibition for the sustainable waste, resource and environment sector.

The organizers of the Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) exhibition and Futuresource signed an agreement to combine the two exhibitions into one new event from 2011.

CIWM and the Environmental Services Association (ESA), the organizers of Futuresource, and Emap, the organizers of Recycling and Waste Management (RWM), have responded to market feedback on the two recycling and waste management conferences.

According to a release announcing the merger of the two conferences, both parties agreed that by working in partnership and combining the two exhibitions, the groups can deliver a powerful conference that can compete internationally.

The first combined event will take place at the NEC Sept. 13-15, 2011. Futuresource 2011 will not take place at ExCeL in June, and scheduled exhibitors for that conference will be invited to transfer their space to the combined event. Details of the transfer plan will be made available to all Futuresource customers in early January.

Commenting on the merger, Steve Lee, CIWM chief executive, says, "As the industry's professional body, CIWM's aim has always been to deliver a premier event for our sector, and we believe we have reached an arrangement that will satisfy the needs of our customers and CIWM members. We plan to be very involved in the future of the joint exhibition and look forward to working with Emap to deliver a world class event."
