Bakers Waste Equipment Inc. (BWE), a producer of containers and compactors for the waste and recycling industry, has announced plans to consolidate its manufacturing operations at a new facility in Caldwell County, N.C. The company currently has its main office and compactor manufacturing in Valdese, N.C., as well as container manufacturing operations in Morganton and Conover, N.C.
BWE will invest more than $2.9 million over the next three years to build the facility in Lenoir, N.C.
To assist in the project, the state of North Carolina has awarded the company a $180,000 grant from its One North Carolina Fund.
The One North Carolina Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds, according to the state.
BWE manufactures and sells steel containers and compactors for the waste, construction, recycling, manufacturing and retail industries. BWE currently employs more than 80 people at its facilities in Burke and Catawba counties. When the new facility is complete, the company will consolidate its operations at the new location. BWE says it expects to retain a majority of existing employees, as the new location is within commuting range.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for our company to consolidate three separate operations and to grow in Caldwell County,” says Ric Raines, president of BWE. “We really appreciate the diligent support from the state of North Carolina, the city of Lenoir and Caldwell County, Self Help and the SBA (Small Business Administration), the Stump Corp. and Fifth Third Bank.”
