Organizers behind the first international Global Recycling Day have announced Sims Metal Management Ltd., one of the world’s largest metal and electronics recyclers with headquarters in Sydney and New York City, has joined the initiative as a founding sponsor.
Global Recycling Day, March 18, is an international initiative designed by the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) to raise awareness of the need to convert recyclables and waste into valuable resources. The initiative calls on the world to think of recycling in a new way.
BIR President Ranjit Baxi says, “We are thrilled to have Sims Metal Management on board. It is entirely fitting that a company with proven commitment to pursuing recycling as the seventh resource should be one of our founding sponsors.”
Sims Metal Management has 245 facilities in 18 countries and more than 4,700 employees globally.
Global Recycling Day will be a day of action, aimed at building a global approach toward recycling, calling on world leaders, international businesses, communities and individuals to make seven clear commitments in their approach to recycling. Consumers also are being called upon to ask themselves some key questions about recycling and to think of it in a new way. For more information, visit www.globalrecyclingday.com.
