Auto salvage business closed for fluid leaks

An auto salvage business in Hammond, Indiana, has been ordered closed by city regulators, who contend a burst pipe introduced chemicals into the local sewer system.

According to an online article distributed by AP, Mickey’s Auto and Truck was ordered to be closed, “sealed and vacated” on Thursday, May 24. Prior to the closure order, regulators had “discovered serious code violations, contaminated storm water runoff and other possible environmental hazards,” according to the report.

One of the Hammond employees quoted in the article indicated that a burst pipe was continuing to leak, and that water observed on the premises appeared tainted with oils, engine fluids and anti-freeze.
