Equipment maker is honored by the State of Georgia for its safety record.
Harris, Peachtree City, Ga., has received a Georgia Department of Labor Award for Excellence for workplace safety. The award is presented to companies that surpass a minimum 250 work days with no lost-time injuries, illnesses or fatalities.
In a news release, the recycling equipment manufacturing company credits the use of certified lean practitioners who work directly with the company’s safety and environmental coordinator, safety committees and frontline employees. “Together, Harris has integrated lean principles with the Harris Safety Program and the combination has been very effective,” the news release from Harris states.
Harris also says it is an avid supporter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) Safety and Environmental Council and that it intends to make aspects of its strategy for integrating lean manufacturing principles and safety performance available to other ISRI members.
Harris, which has been in business for 120 years, designs, manufactures and supports scrap processing, recycling and waste handling equipment. More information on the company is available at www.harrisequip.com.
