Company attributes increase to corporate effort to control costs.
Olympic Wire and Equipment, Newport Beach, Calif., has reported that demand for the company’s baling equipment increased in 2008.
“When times are tough, that’s when companies take a serious look at untapped areas of their business,” says Jim Walker, CEO of Olympic Wire, says. “And recycling their waste materials is certainly one of those areas.”
Since purchasing baling equipment from Olympic, companies like Linder’s Furniture, Garden Grove, Calif., have turned trash hauling expenses into a profit center, according to a press release from Olympic.
“We went from spending $100,000 a year on sending trash to landfills to generating as much as $160 a ton for our corrugated cardboard and other waste,” Mark Kantor, operations manager, Linder’s Furniture, says. “Our new baling equipment transformed that major cost into a profit center almost overnight.”
