reports that its remote container monitoring system for the waste and recycling industries has been selected by the New York-based textile collector SpinGreen
. The company signed a multiyear contract with SmartBin in July, the systems provider says.
SmartBin manufactures wireless sensors for collection containers and offers the Optimal Servicing Solution for recycling bins. Under the program, the wireless sensors communicate with the secure SmartBin host server, which processes the information from the bins with application specific software, the company says. The processed information is made available to service contractors on configurable websites. Also part of the service is SmartBin Live, the web interface providing a service view of all monitored assets and access to management reports, including alert SMS messages and emails, SmartBin says.
SpinGreen says its investment in SmartBin’s remote monitoring solution may help drive efficiencies and reduce collection costs while furthering support for local initiatives.
“The advancements we are making today, thanks to SmartBin’s revolutionary approach, will enable us to not only grow further as a collector company but to also secure our current commitment to the local community for years to come,” says Director of Sustainability Elliot Groman.
SmartBin says the product’s Intelligent Monitoring System offers collectors the capability to distinguish container fill levels remotely, prior to collection.
“Over the past two years we have seen much growth, and in the last six months in particular, a shift in thinking by recyclers has led to a boost in sales across the U.S. and Europe,” says Eoin Kettle, international marketing executive for SmartBin.
According to SmartBin, the product’s UBi sensor and SmartBin Live portal are designed to accurately monitor not only the fill-level but also temperature and geo-positioning, which enable collection companies to collect on optimized routes.
The product was launched in 2009, and since then the company has enhanced the hardware sensor and the cloud-based customer portal, Kettle adds.
“We have gone from playing somewhat of a guessing game to a fully informed, precisely fleet-managed operation that leverages our container assets to make significant savings on servicing and greater returns from routes,” Groman observes.
