Company unveils machines at the recent ISRI 2013 Convention and Exposition.

introduced its new line of material handling equipment at the recently concluded Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) 2013 Convention & Exposition in Orlando, Fla. The company showcased three different products.
The company says its vertically integrated manufacturing approach results in machines designed from the ground up using Liebherr manufactured components, such as diesel engines, hydraulic cylinders, electronics and attachments.
During the ISRI show, Liebherr introduced the LH 30 M Litronic material handler, the successor to its A 924 C model. The LH 30 M is powered by a four-cylinder, stage IIIB/Tier 4i engine, has an operating weight of 63,500 pounds and an engine output of 173 horsepower at 1,800 revolutions per minute (rpm). Liebherr says the material handler makes efficient use of fuel at low engine speed and is suitable for loading trucks or rail cars, feeding scrap metal shears and shredders, sorting and handling bulk material.
The LH 60 M was also on display at the exposition. It has an engine output of 241 horsepower at 1,700 rpm, an operating weight of 131,400 pounds and a reach of 60 feet. It features the patented Energy Recovery Cylinder (ERC). This nitrogen-filled energy storage cylinder works by partially compensating for the weight of the working attachment (boom, stick and load), according to Liebherr. As the equipment is lowered, the gas in the cylinder is compressed, storing energy. As the equipment is lifted, the stored energy assists the lifting action, the company says. This technology requires less force, enabling the use of smaller hydraulic cylinders and reduced engine horsepower.
The LH 60 M also features the “Liebherr Power Efficiency” (LPE) system resulting in better performance at lower engine rpm, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions, according to the company.
ERC and LPE combine to give the LH 60 M a more than 5 percent increase in production, 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and a 2 decibel drop in sound levels when compared with the previous model, Liebherr says.
Also recently released was Liebherr’s L556 industrial wheel loader Stage IIIB/Tier 4 interim. The machine belongs to the large-size loader range and features common rail fuel injection, which is designed to optimize the combustion process to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
When configured for material handling applications, the L556 is equipped with industrial lift arms and a hydraulic quick-coupler system, allowing a wide range of Liebherr equipment options to be attached and removed. The machine is powered by a 188-horsepower diesel engine, has an operating weight of 46,295 pounds and a 4.3-cubic-yard bucket. It offers an articulated tipping load of 26,015 pounds, according to the company. In addition, the loader is equipped with a range of options such as front and rear chassis protection, tilt cylinder and front windshield protection, particle protection and a wide-mesh, reversible fan cooling system.
Along with the use of the hydrostatic drive concept, the new generation of wheel loaders uses the newly developed LPE system, which provides additional fuel savings, Liebherr says, by adjusting performance power to the best possible degree of efficiency to the situation. Compared with other machines in similar size categories, the company says the driveline concept cuts fuel consumption by as much as 25 percent.
